30 HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS FROM ACROSS NATION COME TO PITTSBURGH FOR THEOLOGICAL TRAINING, TO SERVE CHURCHES
(Pittsburgh, Pa.) – June 29, 2007 – A record 30 high school students from around the country are arriving today at the Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary (RPTS) in Point Breeze to participate in the Seminary’s 3-week Theological Foundations for Youth (TFY) program.
Beginning with a picnic at 6 p.m. followed by a visit to Mt. Washington this evening, students begin the first week (June 29 – July 3) in classroom study under Seminary professors and will visit areas of Pittsburgh.
The second week (July 4 – July 12), break out service groups spread out to churches in various states (including locally) to assist pastors with door-to-door and street evangelism, service projects, and Vacation Bible School.
The third week (July 13 - 17), break out service groups return to the Seminary for more training with professors.
Students are supervised by pastors and seminary graduates and their wives.
TFY began in 1999 through a Lilly Endowment grant to see youth in the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America (the denomination that runs the Seminary) connect with and be encouraged by their church leaders through service, join like-minded peers in exploring a desire to gain further insights into the Bible through seminary training, and become active adult church members (some later as Seminary students and pastors).
