Recording of Feb. 23 Webinar with Professor Steve Miller: "How Do We Know What Missions Is?" Available Online
(Pittsburgh, PA) - February 16, 2009 - The recent webinar held February 23 with Rev. Steve Miller, Adjunct Professor of Missions on "How Do We Know What Missions Is?"
has been recorded and is available to view here. "There is a very basic question being asked today among many missiologists and missions academics as well as in the church at large," says Miller. "The question is: 'What is missions (foreign missions)?' The question is particularly acute when one asks, what is legitimately missions’ activity. —Or alternatively, what is not missions activity?"
Miller addressed questions such as: "Is there A Criteria for Missions?" and "Is there something that may be ascertained from Bible doctrine as criteria for what is definitively, legitimately, and even appropriately missions activity?"
Miller suggested that "our doctrine supplies us with something to guide us through the difficult decision-making process in the inevitably messy business of missions." He demonstrated how, if the church propagates the church, and our Lord has given the church the tools and power to do so, it is the case that the identity and bounds of what is missions activity could be defined by what power God has given to the church. He showed how the Principle Criteria of Missions is to be found in the doctrine of the Nature and Extent of Church Power.
His lecture outlined the main topics of: The Aim, Motive, Power, and Instrument of Missions Applied to the Question; The Church Propagates the Church; The Nature & Extent of Church Power; and The Indigenous Church.
