Our Professors as Authors!

Not only are our professors excellent instructors and gifted pastors, many of them are published authors as well. This issue we are featuring Dr. George Scipione’s book - The Sword and the Shovel: The Battle for the Biblical Family.

Quoting the back cover, “This volume explores what is at stake if the social forces trying to reshape the family should win. God’s revealed standards are given as the only framework for the family’s godly development, resulting in blessings to individuals, future families, churches, and society.” In the first section of the book, Dr. Scipione discusses the family as God’s basic building block, His reflection, His servant, and His model. The second section provides a look at God’s overview of marriage, children, and parents. This is followed by a look at the family in both Western and non-Western culture. Since the family faces both an internal and an external battle, these are discussed and a battle plan is outlined. The final chapter is called “Your Family and God’s Covenant.” Here, Scipione calls upon all of us to covenant with God as individuals, and he calls upon the heads of family units to covenant “that you and your family will serve God.”
