Could you introduce yourself?
My name is Scott Moreland. I grew up north of Pittsburgh and attended Geneva College. I enjoy occasionally watching Scrubs, Walking Dead, and Boy Meets World. At Geneva I majored in Christian ministries with a focus in pre-seminary. I took advantage of a program that allowed me to take seminary classes at RPTS during my senior year at Geneva. I am currently a third-year student at RPTS. I am under care with the Pittsburgh Presbytery of the PCA and an intern at Calvin PCA in Irwin. The Lord has been very gracious to me and my beautiful wife Brenna during our time at RPTS.
What degree are you working towards at RPTS?
I am in the Masters of Divinity Program.
What brought you to RPTS?
Professor Jonathan Watt (professor at Geneva and RPTS) recommended the seminary. I have had the desire to pursue pastoral ministry since high school. God has given me gifts for ministry and the encouragement of many Pastors and elders along the way. I am at seminary to prepare for whatever ministry opportunities the Lord calls me to.
What classes are you finding the most helpful for ministry?
1.) The biblical counseling courses are amazing. You are required to take two, but you ought to take them all. I am serious. 2.) Also, the apologetics course helped me, as someone coming from a background that is not theologically reformed, develop a distinctly Christian way of viewing the world. It also equipped me to interact with the unbelieving world with boldness, patience, and compassion. 3.) Lastly, I have to recommend all of the church history courses, because the professors are incredibly gifted and passionate men. I could say more, but I will stop.
What are your plans for the future?
Lord willing, I will continue to be an intern at Calvin PCA until February of 2015. After that I do not really know. I would like to earn a Masters of Theology degree from Puritan Seminary, but the Lord may call me to a pastorate before that. I suppose we will just have to wait and see.
